When I started my poetry journey on Instagram, I confess I was completely caught off-guard by the various colored emojis that came my way as tokens of appreciation. Even more perplexing was when it was time for me to express my admiration. What would be a suitable emoji to use? So I decided to do some research on the emojis we use to forge bonds of appreciation on Instagram. After all, poems are written from the heart, for the heart and touch our hearts, and what more credible way there is to express our appreciation to writers than with heart emojis? So here we go….
❤️ – A red heart indicates love. Use it to indicate that the post you just read you did not only like it, you loved it.
🧡- An orange heart indicates warm feelings. Use it to indicate that the post you just read warmed the cockles of your heart.
💛- A yellow heart indicates your unbounded appreciation for someone you don’t know too well but can glean from the post that he or she has a heart of gold.
💚- A green heart indicates you like the post you just read. It may seem redundant if you already liked the post, but you are reinforcing your appreciation by using the green heart.
💙- A blue heart indicates the feelings of loyalty, trust, and peace the post inspires in you and is meant to express feelings of gratitude to the person who created the post.
💜 – A purple heart usually has more formal connotations. It is a sign of honor and compassion you feel for the person who created the post.
🖤 – A black heart (my personal favorite) expresses your appreciation for the feelings of sarcasm, satire, and dark humor that the post invokes in you. The receiver of the black heart should take it as a sign of appreciation. It is almost like the reader of the post chuckled and gets the dark humor behind the post.
🤍 – Use the white heart to express the place of pure love and pure intent the post signifies for you.
